As I'm typing this, I'm thinking I could up the voltage to 24 volts which would halve the amps to 4, meaning the max 6 amp driver would work?Ĭan someone call me an idiot and point me in the right direction. Problem is, the specific driver I'm looking at has a max output of 6 amps. At 12v that's going to be a draw of 8 amps. The strip I'm looking at is max wattage 9.6W/M. I'm thinking of rigging up a flexible light panel using chained sections of LED strip lighting. I've been reading up on this all afternoon and I think I've confused myself, so looking for slap in the head to put me on the right track. I'm in college and just having a lot of confusion with a lab.

TLDR Basically I'm asking why are 2 LED's in parallel bright when 2 LED's in series are dim? I understand that the brightness is based on the current but that would mean that parallels would be dimmer than series because parallels cut the current in half? I'm confused because doesn't the current not change throughout a series? Do the LEDs use up the remaining voltage that the resistor doesn't drop? If that were the case then how would you even calculate the current? because would because wouldn't the LED's be functioning as a resistor? If I'm running 3.3 volts through a series with a single LED and a single 400 ohm resistor, how will the current change if I add another LED in parallel with the existing one? Will the total current double and then split through each parallel? That wouldn't make sense because the total resistance isn't effected by the LED's right?īut when 2 LEDs are connected in series with a resistor also in series they are way dimmer.
